Tradition and innovation inside the overseas’ biodiversity.

Aware of the need to re-emphasize the French overseas departments and territories’ natural heritage, Dr Henry Joseph (Doctor of Pharmacognosy) and Professor Paul Bourgeois (Professor of Chemistry),both passionate about Phytochemistry decided to found in 2005, Phytobôkaz laboratory (“Phyt” referring to plants and “obôkaz” from the local creole meaning around the house).

Located within the rich Guadeloupean vegetation, the laboratory offers products whose active ingredients are drawn from the local flora. They therefore contribute to the diversification of agricultural activities. Thanks to their company, they create high-value jobs by hiring specialists in the fields they promote: Phytochemistry, Pharmacognosy, Cosmetology and Quality Control .

Phytobôkaz laboratory based its activity on the development and manufacturing of phytocosmetics and dietary supplements. The active ingredients are derived from edible plants or plants used in French overseas departments and territories’ traditional medicine.

Phytobôkaz aims to be environmentally friendly. That is why the company sets up on their crop land a system of agroecology* and agroforestry*, where insects and plants are unspoilt and develop self-regulation. The supplying of plants respects a set of specifications which strictly excludes the use of pesticides in favor of positive attractions between insects, bacteria, plants and mushrooms. These are trophic attractions. In addition, herbicides are replaced by ground cover plant species. Therefore, our ecosystem resources are used in a rational and sustainable way.

By controlling the traceability of vegetable raw materials from the seed to the finished product, including harvest and agro-processing, Phytobôkaz laboratory guarantees products of quality.

*agroecology: an ecologically whole-systems approach of agriculture where different faunas and cultivated species of plants are complementary.

*agroforestry: a whole-systems approach of agriculture where trees are managed together with crops and/or faunas on the same land.
